Also known by its English nickname "Broomhandle" this selective fire Mauser M712 is a legend of its own class. It's users since the first introduction in 1896 include no other than Winston Churchill. 9mm P08 was specifically made for the German Army in the early 20th century and it was based on model made first for German Navy. The unofficial “Luger” name originates from salesman George Luger who played a part in designing of the gun. P08 was a standard sidearm for German troops in World War I and it continued to serve until end of World War Two. In time period between WWI and WWII Luger P08 was manufactured in non-standard 7.65mm caliber due limitations placed in Treaty of Versailles. Normally Luger P08s were manufactured in 9 x 19mm Parabellum caliber.

Luger P08 has a unique upwards-opening, toggle-locking mechanism that gives it’s unique sleek appearance. It’s drawback was a exposure to elements that made it high-maintenance gun design.

Our Model Gun Luger P08 PFC versions have been manufactured in Japan in 1980s and are still in excellent condition. They can be disassembled and assembled like the real Luger P08 and functions are identical to real gun (cocking, firing, loading, etc.). Sloping pistol grip has been replaced with more common type grip and bipod has been relocated more closer to the muzzle to improve firing balance. Front sight is protected against dirt in this version as is the magazine well. Early FG42 muzzle brake has went through redesign as did so many other parts of late production FG42s. The redesign was caused primarily by critical resource situation in wartime Germany.

Stemming from German experiences in World War I development of new ammunition was commenced. It was not until 1941 when an intermediate 7.92 Infantrie Kurzpatrone rifle ammunition was finally accepted for service. At the same time order for weapon using the same cartridge was placed.

By 1942 troop trials were held with 7.92mm Maschinenkarbiner 42(H). The weapon receiver was shaped from single heavy-gauge steel stamping. The hand guard and magazine was machined the same way. Overall weight was considerable at 5kgs, but this helped to suppress the weapons recoil. The MKb 42(H) proved to work well in tough conditions and gained over many fans from ranks of infantry officers. MKb 42(H) was given it's combat debut in Eastern Front and would be soon thrown into full production altought too late to stem the tidal wave of Red Army.
