Mauser Kar 98k was one of the most famous bolt-action rifles of WWII and its variant G33/40 was shortened version that was specially designed for German Gebirgsjaeger (mountain infantry). Besides of shortened lenght it had strenghtened buttstock for mountaineering purposes.
The Gew 33/40 was originally developed by Czech arms manufacturer manufacturer Ceskoslovenska Zbrojvka as vz 16/33. Following the German occupation the model was quickly taken up for the expanding Gebirgstruppen (mountain troops).
Tanaka airsoft version is close to model gun quality and is powerful in terms of muzzle velocity, which is about 100m/s with regular gas, but can reach up to 120m/s with green gas. Tanaka Gew 33/40 is great for gaming purposes thanks to its advantegous shooting performance and is favorite among airsoft WWII fans.
